Grit Blasting Ireland

Angular grit blasting for aggressive coating removal and a sharp anchor profile on steel and concrete.

Grit blasting uses angular abrasive — steel grit, garnet or slag media — rather than round shot, so each particle cuts into the surface instead of peening it. That makes it the right choice where thick or stubborn coatings have to come off and where the coating specification calls for a sharp, deep anchor profile. Rayco grit blasts structural steel, tanks, plant, gates and machinery on site or in the yard, working to the ISO 8501-1 grade named in the specification and recovering spent media inside containment.

This service forms part of our nationwide Shotblasting Ireland work — see that page for the full process, standards and county coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between grit blasting and shotblasting?

Grit is angular and cuts, leaving a sharper, deeper profile; shot is round and peens, leaving a smoother dimpled surface. Grit is generally chosen for heavy coating removal and high-build protective systems, shot where a gentler uniform finish is wanted.

What grit blasting media do you use?

Steel grit, garnet and slag media depending on substrate, profile required and whether the abrasive can be recovered and reused. Silica sand is not used.

Will grit blasting distort thin steel?

It can if pressure and media are wrong for the section. On thin plate, cladding or bodywork we drop pressure and change to a finer abrasive, or recommend a less aggressive method.
