Steel Blasting Ireland

Air-fed blasting of steel sections, plate and fabrications to ISO 8501-1 blast grades.

Steel blasting is the preparation stage that decides how long a paint or protective coating system lasts. Rayco blasts steel sections, plate, fabrications, tanks and plant using graded non-silica abrasive to ISO 8501-1 grades Sa 2, Sa 2½ and Sa 3, verifying cleanliness against the pictorial standards and checking anchor profile before hand-over. Crews mobilise nationwide with their own compressors, blast pots, media and containment.

This service forms part of our nationwide Shotblasting Ireland work — see that page for the full process, standards and county coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What blast grade does steel need before painting?

Most protective coating specifications call for Sa 2½. Immersion and high-durability systems sometimes call for Sa 3; maintenance overcoats may accept Sa 2. We work to whatever the coating data sheet states.

What abrasive do you use on steel?

Graded steel grit, chilled iron, garnet or a non-silica mineral abrasive, selected for the profile depth required and whether the steel is ferrous, galvanised or stainless.
