Steel Cleaning Ireland

Cleaning corrosion, mill scale, grease and failed coatings from steelwork of every size.

Steel cleaning covers everything that has to come off steelwork before it can be coated or inspected — rust, mill scale, weld spatter, grease, road film, algae and failed paint. Rayco cleans steel by air-fed abrasive blasting, choosing media and pressure to suit the section thickness and the finish specified, from a light sweep blast on sound galvanising to a full Sa 2½ strip on heavily corroded plate. We work in fabrication shops, on live industrial sites and outdoors under containment across Ireland.

Key Benefits

Rust, mill scale and coating removal
Sweep blasting through to full Sa 2½ strip
Degreasing before blasting where needed
Workshop or on-site working
Containment and spent abrasive recovery

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to clean structural steel?

Abrasive blasting is the only method that removes mill scale and reaches the base of corrosion pitting while leaving the anchor profile a coating needs. Wire brushing and washing clean the surface but leave scale and pitted rust behind.

Can steel be cleaned without removing the existing coating?

Yes. A light sweep blast abrades a sound existing coating to key it for an overcoat without stripping back to bare metal.
